Outdoor Education – Muir – Semester 2

Muir is an outdoor education course that allows students to participate in activites such as archery, orienteering and snorkelling. Through this course you gain knowledge, experiences and life long skills. I really enjoyed my semester 2, Muir experience and have gained lots of key skills that I can apply in the future.

Term 3 – Orienteering and Archery

Term 3 Muir was a great learning experience for me. We learnt the basics of orienteering and archery. In the first half of term 3 our class learnt archery, this was very enjoyable for me. Our instructor Mary was very nice and a great teacher, she taught us the proper techniques and skills for archery and was a fun activity to do. The capabilities I used when doing archery were self-awareness, being on time to class, making sure my bow and arrows were good to start shooting and making sure that my form was good. In the second half of the term we did orienteering, orienteering is a sport/activity were competitors have to locate markers around a course/area with the use of a map and compass. Groups of 3-4 people were sent around a course looking for marker which were things like letter and numbers, I grouped up with Marshall and Mitch Robinson. Towards the end of the term our class went out on excursions to, Manning park, Jorgensen park, and Piney Lakes. The capabilities I used when we were orienteering were, effective communication, when communicating with my group to find the marker and possibly leadership, for example if I have the compass then I would most likely be telling my group were to go.

Term 4 – Snorkelling

In my opinion, Muir, term 4 was the most enjoyable experience for me. I really enjoy being outdoors and I find snorkelling fun. Our class spent many periods in the pool working on our swimming and snorkelling skills. Towards the start of term 4 we did lots of preparation for our Rottnest camp. Some preparation for this was going to Coogee beach, a few weeks before Rottnest our class went to Coogee beach to do the Omeo shipwreck, Maritime trail. The conditions on the day were not the best, the water was unclear and the water was a little bit rough. I really enjoyed it and was a great learning experience for future snorkels. The Rottnest camp took place in week 4. I packed over the weekend and was ready for the Monday morning. I had all my stuff ready to go and was super excited. I had to wake up super early because the bus left at 7:30. I arrived on time and we all caught the bus to Fremantle. The ferry ride was around 25, 30 minutes. We arrived their and hopped straight of the ferry. The walk was around 30 minutes. We arrived at the beach, the conditions were great for snorkelling, I chucked on my wetsuit on and grabbed my snorkel set. The water was really cold but it was worth it. There was amazing fish and sights. Even a dive through. We came back into shore, played some beach cricket and repeated again but following a different path. We arrived at the campsite and unpacked all our stuff, set up tents and got dry. Later in the afternoon we participated in an amazing race were groups of 3-4 would go out and look for clues around the island. This was very enjoyable as it was some good free time to spend with your mates. After that we had some sausages and went to bed. I woke up pretty early. And had some breakfast. We packed up our tents and put all our bags away. We had one more snorkel trail to do at the Basin. After that was finished, we had lunch in the town and headed home. The capability I used most this term was definantly organisation. I had to be organised every time we did snorkelling, bringing bathers, wetsuit and snorkelling equipment. Especially on camp being organised was a huge factor.

Leave No Trace

Through out this semester myself and the classes have followed the principles of Leave No Trace. I my self have practiced LNT by picking up rubbish, not feeding quokkas, cleaning up after myself and more. Our class did multiple emu bobs and picked up loads of rubbish on camps and excursions after doing these.

Year 10 – Keys For Life – Assessment – 2022

Task: Your advertising company has been contracted to develop a road safety campaign targeting young drivers. It must focus on one of the BIG 4 issues ā€“ Speed, Alcohol, fatigue or distracted driving (including mobile phones etc).

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

What a serious issue mobile phone usage while driving is and the amount of deaths and damage it causes on the roads. I learnt that there are not many adverts or campaigns towards this issue, and it should be a topic the world needs to address.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young drivers above all else? Why?

That driving while being distracted on your phones can kill you. Because that split second when you turn your head and loose focus gives leaves yourself vulnerable to get in a car crash and possibly die.

Write down a pledge that you will commit to when you start driving. Why did you pick these things to commit to? How will you stick to these commitments?

I will never look at my phone while driving, and I will always stay focused when Iā€™m on the roads. I picked these things because the roads are very dangerous and fast. Looking away for a split second can cost you. I will stick to these commitments by doing the methods I said on my poster.

Year 9 2021 – Lock Camp

Throughout my time on Year 9 OLP I enhanced the All Saints Collages capabilities of, teamwork self-awareness and organisation. This camp was very different to any other school camp I have been on, this camp really challenged my organisation skills. Prior to the camp me and my group member, Simba, had to plan out all the food we were going to bring. This task definitely required a lot of organisation skills. Simba and I planned out all the food and equipment we needed for cooking. As well as packing clothes and personal belongings, I successful had everything I needed all throughout my time at Honeymoon pool. I think that went well organising the stuff for both me and my group members. The organisation is definitely a strength of mine and I used this capability on camp well.

One of the capabilities that I tried to use throughout the Year 9 camp was teamwork. I think that teamwork is by far the most important capability on the All Saints capability wheel. A lot of the tasks that we were required to do, were tasks involving teamwork. I used teamwork very well in camp as it is one of my strongest capabilities. Whilst on camp, me and my group member had to pack the food. Simba and I had to divide out the food and did this very well working in a team. We set up the tent together and participated in the rafting together as a group. I also worked good whilst doing the amazing race. This was a group task that we had to do and my group finished 3rd. Next time whilst doing teamwork I will try and be more inclusive to others who may be feeling left out or not comfortable. Teamwork is a lifelong skill that can help me throughout my time at school and throughout my whole life.

Self-awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and maintain your mental health and wellbeing. At camp, I think that I was very self-aware. I maintain my physical health by doing activities like rock climbing and rafting and I maintain my mental health by hanging around my friends and people who support me. Using this capability helps me balance my life and keep my self inline and be able to do fun things Next time I think that I will try and take in, most of my opportunities and step out of my comfort zone more than I did. Being self-aware in life helps me maintain my physical and mental health.

Honeymoon Pool is an area full of wildlife. And being students camping there is not good for the environment because people leave rubbish on the floor, leave food scraps and disrupt the surrounding area. All Saints College cares about the future of the school and its environment. Honeymoon Pool is a campsite that All Saints Outdoor ed programs use almost every year and we must treat it with respect and look after it by picking up rubbish and doing our best to care for the future people coming through the campsite.

Innovat[ED] $20 boss reflection

Summary

This term in Innovat[ED] we did a project on business and management called $20 boss. In the project, you had to come up with a business idea and start a business with only $20. You could work in groups and I choose to work with Ayden H. I really struggled with making an idea because it’s quite hard to think of something new. I thought that is project was to have fun, make a business, and enjoy Innovat[ES] for term 3. Right away we realized that dog tags were not going to sell and not be a good idea. A couple of weeks ago we did a workshop about marketing I learned how to interact with customers with our product and attract our target audience. I would change the way we managed our time because it was not efficient enough for us to create a business.

Designing

Our business was called Bush Buddies and we were making little wooden animals with either a magnet or a broach pin on the back. We came up with a few designs and a logo. We would make these pins with the laser cutter and wood. Our idea was that 25% of our profits were going to team trees which plants one tree every dollar you give. Term 3 has been a very fun term and hope my business turns out a success.

Capabilities

The capabilities that I relied on are creativity and problem-solving, I used problem-solving because we did really have a good idea at the start and had to change our idea to something new. I could improve on my collaboration because I didn’t really help Ayden that much.

Christmas Market reflection šŸŽ…

For me, the Christmas market was a real success. My group (Thenuk, Amrit, Shray and I) worked really hard on our product and that hard work really paid off. In total, we made a $75 profit. My group was making snowglobes and sold them for $4, we also made snow which we sold for $1 that was a last-minute decision. We made a lot of different print adverts and some of them were really good. At the start of this project, we thought that our idea was going to really good. But during the process of making our product we realized that something was going wrong, the clay we were using on the inside of the jars was dissolving in the water. We then had to use Woolworths Ooshies on the inside of the jar. This change was actually beneficial for us and we almost sold out on our product. The Christmas market was a real success for my group.

Health – online safety reflection

This term during health my class (7Z) looked at the topic of online safety. I learned a lot of new things about the internet and how to look after yourself. In class, each student got booklets that they needed to fill out, these booklets were filled with questions and information about the internet. There were 3 main parts about this unit, which were being respectful, showing empathy and being responsible online. Each of these sections taught me a lot about the mean people online and the ways you can protect yourself and others.

Innovat[Ed] Term 3

During term 3 innovat[Ed] we split off into different global goal groups. There were 6 different groups to choose from. I choose Mr. Coleman’s group which was global goal number 14, we were doing the life underwater goal. This goal is about plastic and pollution in our oceans. In this group, we split up again into three groups the research, marketing, and action teams. I choose the research group. In this group, we had to research the effects of plastic in our oceans. My group made a Minecraft world, in this Minecraft world we showed the before and after effects of plastic in the oceans.

My Sports šŸŽ½šŸ€šŸŠā€ā™‚ļø

Sports are a very important part of my life. I play three different sports. They are basketball, footy, and swimming. I swim here at All Saints but I don’t really focus on my swimming though. I went to ACC swimming but I was a reserve but I still went to the carnival. I also play basketball here at All Saints in the 003 team. We are currently playing under 14’s when we are under 13’s so it has been a tough season for our team. We didn’t reach finals and lost most of our games. I also play footy for the Booragon Bulldogs. I only joined the team this session though. This year the team was pretty successful. We reached finals but unfortunately were knocked out in the first round. I play in full back and really enjoy playing in that position
