Reflection of WCE AFLW

I was not present for one of the WCE AFLW presentations, but I was present for the diet presentation. In that presentation, the dietician for the AFLW explained to us when we should eat before and after games/training and what types of food we should be eating and how much of them. She took us through an activity to get us to write down what we generally eat during the day to see if we meet the recommended daily dietary needs.

How do I perceive skill training and/or personal physicality?

I have always perceived and picked up new skills easily and with basketball, I have done it easier. Working with Mister Haxby I have been able to pick up many different things during this semester. I have realized more now after speaking with Mister Haxby that I need to use my strength and body when driving and initiate the contact when attacking the rim and going for a layup, at the start of doing this I was getting to the rim easily as I am strong and athletic but I was getting jumped on by people and wasn’t getting any foul calls so I now have to yell when I get inside and I have been getting foul calls now, also I know when to utilize the hop stop and euro step to get into space instead of driving into people.

Offense concepts

During this semester on offensive concepts, Mister Haxby has spent a great deal of time talking about space and off-ball movement such as cutting. Looking for space and cutting is useful as it opens up the rest of the court for the other players and gives them room to operate and score. Cutting and going to space also allow new scoring options such as a pass to the space for a shot or layup and a pass to a cutter for a shot or a layup.

Defensive concepts

Defensive concepts that were covered this semester were help defense and help defense positions also the concept that if you are unable to stay in front of your defender and contain them, we learned when to run to get back in front of the offensive player to contain or contest their shot. The shell drill was used and ran many times in order to lock in the understanding of help defense positions and when to move to help or get into a different position.

Where to from here?

From here I will continue working on my basketball skills, basketball IQ, physical attributes, and off the court well-being/lifestyle choices. I will continue playing at Willetton Tigers unless an opportunity at another club. I will do some research to find the best exercise, drills, and lifestyle factors in order to be in the best mindset and health in order to maximize my abilities. I will better learn how to use my strengths on the court.

Health ED driving campaign

The biggest thing that I learned doing this assessment was that drunk driving is a massive problem as it can lead to lead to fatal accidents if you drink and drive. Drink driving is more prevalent among young people as they are more stupid and have worse decision-making than people of older age. Young people are less experienced and it is more dangerous for them to drive in general and even more when under the influence.

One piece of advice that I would give to young drivers is to be responsible at all times and think about everything you are going to do. In order to be a safe driver, you need to be responsible and think, by thinking and being responsible you eliminate the risk of drunk driving and minimize the risk of other factors that can lead to a car accident.

I will not drink drive

I will not drive when tired

I will not drive when I feel unwell or have something distracting me

I will not look at my phone when driving

I will always be careful on the road and make sure I am being safe when making decisions

I will obey all road rules

I will do everything to never cause an accident on the road

Science project: Earthquake-resistant building

In this challenge, we needed to design a building that would withstand a major earthquake. We used spaghetti, blu tack, a ruler and scissors and a retractable craft knife to do so. It was 61cm tall and had a base 0f 15cm x 15cm. it wasn’t attached to the table in any way. Had to remain standing after the earthquake has finished. We couldn’t spend more than $60 dollars to do so as per the cost of materials above. We were hoping to build a tower that fits these parameters. It is important because it showed how we worked as a team and how we were able to overcome challenges that we were forced to face.

Our first design was the one below was pretty bad because we didn’t think about how all the pieces would go together and how hard it would be to put together.

Me: Equipment manager. Get all equipment ready and in the class when we need it. Main builder of the tower.

Declan: Reporter. Make sure that we have everything together and done on time.

Ben: Project manager. Make sure we understand what to do and make sure we do it.

Scarlett: Speaker. Talk to others and find out more information.

everyone had to research the best way to build a tower so it was strong. Scarlett and Ben found out the strongest building structures and I and Declan found how to build the tower and the best way to do so. we had a lot of problems when making our building and when we did we would discuss as a group to pitch different ideas and we were all respectful to each other during this process.

Ben had intelligence and good maths skills to get the measurements of our design right. He was a leader for the group who kept everyone doing the right things. I am good with hands-on things so I was the main builder of the building and the group trusted me to do challenging tasks or make changes when the building might fall over. Scarlett made sure our building made sure the spaghetti was all together and not gonna fall out of place, She also helped make it. Declan was always coming up with new ideas and improvements for the building, also he helped make the building.

We completed the engineering challenge quite well as our building was able to withstand a very large earthquake for 10 seconds or more. Through this challenge, we had to overcome different challenges such as the building being difficult and falling over and needing a new design for everything but we were able to do this as a group because we all communicated with each other and added different ideas. If we had more time we should test more and do different tests to try and make our building the strongest it could be. Our first design didn’t survive testing so we had to make a new design but the second one worked.

Lock camp

This semester one of my electives was Lock Outdoor Education in this class we did many different things such as rock climbing, fishing and bush cooking. Rock climbing was a good way to use the capabilities of effective communication, collaboration and ethics. we had to utilize effective communication whilst rock climbing in order to maximize safety band have the most fun that we could, we used it as the belayer in order to make sure our climber was ready and safe to climb. we used collaboration a lot during bush cooking because we had to bring all the food and equipment in order to make the best food and do it as quick and good as possible. collaboration is also needed during rock climbing in order to be safe. ethics was a big part of our camo because we were trying to maintain the environment and try to not leave a trace, the ethics were much needed to make sure that we actually didn’t leave a trace.

Leave no trace

Leave no trace was a big part of our camp as we wanted to keep the environment good and clean. We did this when we went fishing with Pete, by cutting our line and making sure we got rid of it correctly without it going into nature. We also had to follow leave no trace when we were bush cooking. This meant we had to burn our wood down to ashes and not leave any rubbish lying around.

Year 9 OLP submission

After year 9 Outdoor learning program my ability of leadership and teamwork rose tremendously, and I was able to take my new found skills into real life and utilise these skills every day. Leadership has helped me in my sports, especially basketball because I can lead people and show them the right way to do things and to make play better as a group by leading them into our games and giving someone that they can rely on and trust during games and if they need someone to talk to if anything happens. Teamwork has also had a big impact on my life in more ways than just sport. In basketball it allowed me to work well with others and glue together. In school it has allowed me to work with people I don’t normally talk to.

I time in my life where I showed leadership was back at the start of the year in WABL grading against perry lakes, they are 2 half games and are very short. In this game we were down 9 with only 5 minutes remaining we need to come back otherwise we lose. We need are spark, I get us up and start yelling and getting hype, I go on and play d get some stops and easy layups we start coming back. It gets to the last 10 seconds we up by 1 and they need to foul, I get the ball and am fouled, I hit the 2 free throws to ice the game.

A time I showed teamwork was and camp when we had to cross a river on a kayak, and we got put into groups, so I was working with people I don’t normally work with. We ended up not crossing the river, but we all showed teamwork by having fun with each other and contributing ideas that we could try to cross the river. Having teamwork allows you to be flexible and change your ideas on the ball.

Muir reflection

what leave no trace guidelines have you learnt about and followed during this unit? we learnt about not damaging any of the nature around the place and put things in the bags. name and described the significant events that happened over the past 2 terms in Muir? hitting the bullseye in archery and clapping everyone in archery. What was the funniest that happened? Hassan thinking he hit a balloon. I can communicate. Talking to teammates. Good, I get to experience nature. getting water out of my mask in snorkelling because it would be good to know. communication, collaboration and accuracy. meeting new people and getting to know them.

Muir

Snorkelling in term one we started snorkelling and we learnt about how to snorkel properly, once we had all the tools to be confident in our abilities we travelled to Coogee to view the Omeo shipwreck and all the nature that surrounds it. In order to have the best experience, we needed to use collaboration to make sure we were safe and had the best experience. We collaborated by learning hand signals that we needed to use to ensure safety and fun.

Archery

Archery was very fun and challenging at times. I think it was more fun because I was destroying my team members every week. In archery, we needed to use communication in order to not get hurt or anything bad to happen. Collaboration was also needed to count the scores and grab the arrows out of the board. We needed to keep in mind every capability in order to maintain safety.

All after all in outdoor ed this year we needed to use many capabilities but the main ones were collaboration and communication. These capabilities were a must in order to have the most fun and minimize the risk of injuries.

Maths project

Declan and I had to complete a Maths project where we analysed data, commented on it and made some graphs. Our PowerPoint below goes in-depth about the purpose of our subject, the results and the reliability of them, our analysis and any extra information. We also have slides with all the graphs and tables showing the data.

HASS project

In this project, we learnt about the principles of justice that uphold Australia’s legal system, such as the presumption of innocence, an impartial judiciary, and the right to legal representation. I studied the case of Loyd rayney, and analysed how these principles were both upheld and violated in this case. After writing an essay on the topic, we were required to incorporate feedback and edit the essay so that it was fit for online publication. This essay is the end result of that editing process. It demonstrates my ability to take feedback, and to refine a piece of written work to produce a professional result.

The Loyd Rayney case was a murder case that was formed from the murder of corin rayney. The murder happened one night in august 2007 after one of Corins boot scooting classes and after it she disappeared. She didn’t come home that night so Loyd thought she went to work early but her workplace said she hadn’t shown up. Loyd knew something was wrong. Her body was found a week later buried on a trail in kings park after a brake fluid from her car led police there. The principles of justice were mostly upheld but some weren’t . the principles of justice that are obvious in this case are timeliness, reliable evidence, right to a fair trial and presumption of innocence.

In this case timeliness was not upheld at all, after corins body was found Loyd was labelled as the only subject by the police, there was 3 years until the trial started which is far too long because in those years loyd was not being able to work because people were labelling him as a murderer and his whole life was being destroyed because of the polices words and investigation. Once the trial had started it took 2 years before loyd was found not guilty for the murder of his wife. This means there was 5 years were loyd couldn’t work or live a normal life. This caused Loyd to lose a lot of money and years of his life.

Reliable evidence was not upheld in this case because of liquid amber seed pods the size of golf balls being planted on Corins body and in her hair. The coroner who examined her body said that in the first inspection he missed the seed pods but in the second he found 2 seed pods, also a seed pod was found in her body bag. The seed pods were examined, and they found no sand particles from king’s park in the seed pods. This is not reliable because if she was buried in kings park and had seed pods in her hair then there should be sand in the seed pods.

The right to a fair trial was upheld because it let Loyd choose to have a judge decide instead of a jury, if there was a jury, he would have been found guilty because he had already been trialled by the media which had him portrayed as guilty because of what the police was telling the media, this means if there was a jury trial he would have been found guilty because of what the media was saying.

The principle of justice presumption of innocence was upheld in this case because it was a judge trial and there was no outside influence being put on the judge because he was from a different state. If it was a jury trial, there would’ve been no presumption of innocence because of what the police had been saying on the media. It could’ve been followed better if the police had not said that he was the only subject because that meant that everyone thought he was guilty. There were other people the police could’ve labelled as a suspect, but they didn’t follow the principles of justice.

In this case the principle of justice had been mostly upheld but had been terribly comprised. The principles of justice timeliness, presumption of innocence , reliable evidence and right to a fair trial are good examples of some upheld principles and some compromised principles. Loyd Rayney was proven not guilty and took the state to court and won 2.8 million dollars in damages.

Innovate ED reflection

this term in Innovate ED we had a choice of what we wanted to do and I chose STEM sport and in that, we got to choose a sport we wanted to focus on. Me and some mates chose basketball, once we chose our sport we chose to focus on different variables every week. One week we focused on feet placement and angle, the next was the arc of the shot, then speed and finally form. we compared these to Steph curry to see how we should improve shot to make more jumpers in-game. after we did the research and compared our shots we changed our shots to see if we made more shots with the new information that we found.
