Reflection of WCE AFLW

I was not present for one of the WCE AFLW presentations, but I was present for the diet presentation. In that presentation, the dietician for the AFLW explained to us when we should eat before and after games/training and what types of food we should be eating and how much of them. She took us through an activity to get us to write down what we generally eat during the day to see if we meet the recommended daily dietary needs.

How do I perceive skill training and/or personal physicality?

I have always perceived and picked up new skills easily and with basketball, I have done it easier. Working with Mister Haxby I have been able to pick up many different things during this semester. I have realized more now after speaking with Mister Haxby that I need to use my strength and body when driving and initiate the contact when attacking the rim and going for a layup, at the start of doing this I was getting to the rim easily as I am strong and athletic but I was getting jumped on by people and wasn’t getting any foul calls so I now have to yell when I get inside and I have been getting foul calls now, also I know when to utilize the hop stop and euro step to get into space instead of driving into people.

Offense concepts

During this semester on offensive concepts, Mister Haxby has spent a great deal of time talking about space and off-ball movement such as cutting. Looking for space and cutting is useful as it opens up the rest of the court for the other players and gives them room to operate and score. Cutting and going to space also allow new scoring options such as a pass to the space for a shot or layup and a pass to a cutter for a shot or a layup.

Defensive concepts

Defensive concepts that were covered this semester were help defense and help defense positions also the concept that if you are unable to stay in front of your defender and contain them, we learned when to run to get back in front of the offensive player to contain or contest their shot. The shell drill was used and ran many times in order to lock in the understanding of help defense positions and when to move to help or get into a different position.

Where to from here?

From here I will continue working on my basketball skills, basketball IQ, physical attributes, and off the court well-being/lifestyle choices. I will continue playing at Willetton Tigers unless an opportunity at another club. I will do some research to find the best exercise, drills, and lifestyle factors in order to be in the best mindset and health in order to maximize my abilities. I will better learn how to use my strengths on the court.

Health ED driving campaign

The biggest thing that I learned doing this assessment was that drunk driving is a massive problem as it can lead to lead to fatal accidents if you drink and drive. Drink driving is more prevalent among young people as they are more stupid and have worse decision-making than people of older age. Young people are less experienced and it is more dangerous for them to drive in general and even more when under the influence.

One piece of advice that I would give to young drivers is to be responsible at all times and think about everything you are going to do. In order to be a safe driver, you need to be responsible and think, by thinking and being responsible you eliminate the risk of drunk driving and minimize the risk of other factors that can lead to a car accident.

I will not drink drive

I will not drive when tired

I will not drive when I feel unwell or have something distracting me

I will not look at my phone when driving

I will always be careful on the road and make sure I am being safe when making decisions

I will obey all road rules

I will do everything to never cause an accident on the road

Lock camp

This semester one of my electives was Lock Outdoor Education in this class we did many different things such as rock climbing, fishing and bush cooking. Rock climbing was a good way to use the capabilities of effective communication, collaboration and ethics. we had to utilize effective communication whilst rock climbing in order to maximize safety band have the most fun that we could, we used it as the belayer in order to make sure our climber was ready and safe to climb. we used collaboration a lot during bush cooking because we had to bring all the food and equipment in order to make the best food and do it as quick and good as possible. collaboration is also needed during rock climbing in order to be safe. ethics was a big part of our camo because we were trying to maintain the environment and try to not leave a trace, the ethics were much needed to make sure that we actually didn’t leave a trace.

Leave no trace

Leave no trace was a big part of our camp as we wanted to keep the environment good and clean. We did this when we went fishing with Pete, by cutting our line and making sure we got rid of it correctly without it going into nature. We also had to follow leave no trace when we were bush cooking. This meant we had to burn our wood down to ashes and not leave any rubbish lying around.

Year 9 OLP submission

After year 9 Outdoor learning program my ability of leadership and teamwork rose tremendously, and I was able to take my new found skills into real life and utilise these skills every day. Leadership has helped me in my sports, especially basketball because I can lead people and show them the right way to do things and to make play better as a group by leading them into our games and giving someone that they can rely on and trust during games and if they need someone to talk to if anything happens. Teamwork has also had a big impact on my life in more ways than just sport. In basketball it allowed me to work well with others and glue together. In school it has allowed me to work with people I don’t normally talk to.

I time in my life where I showed leadership was back at the start of the year in WABL grading against perry lakes, they are 2 half games and are very short. In this game we were down 9 with only 5 minutes remaining we need to come back otherwise we lose. We need are spark, I get us up and start yelling and getting hype, I go on and play d get some stops and easy layups we start coming back. It gets to the last 10 seconds we up by 1 and they need to foul, I get the ball and am fouled, I hit the 2 free throws to ice the game.

A time I showed teamwork was and camp when we had to cross a river on a kayak, and we got put into groups, so I was working with people I don’t normally work with. We ended up not crossing the river, but we all showed teamwork by having fun with each other and contributing ideas that we could try to cross the river. Having teamwork allows you to be flexible and change your ideas on the ball.

Muir reflection

what leave no trace guidelines have you learnt about and followed during this unit? we learnt about not damaging any of the nature around the place and put things in the bags. name and described the significant events that happened over the past 2 terms in Muir? hitting the bullseye in archery and clapping everyone in archery. What was the funniest that happened? Hassan thinking he hit a balloon. I can communicate. Talking to teammates. Good, I get to experience nature. getting water out of my mask in snorkelling because it would be good to know. communication, collaboration and accuracy. meeting new people and getting to know them.

Snorkelling in term one we started snorkelling and we learnt about how to snorkel properly, once we had all the tools to be confident in our abilities we travelled to Coogee to view the Omeo shipwreck and all the nature that surrounds it. In order to have the best experience, we needed to use collaboration to make sure we were safe and had the best experience. We collaborated by learning hand signals that we needed to use to ensure safety and fun.

Archery

Archery was very fun and challenging at times. I think it was more fun because I was destroying my team members every week. In archery, we needed to use communication in order to not get hurt or anything bad to happen. Collaboration was also needed to count the scores and grab the arrows out of the board. We needed to keep in mind every capability in order to maintain safety.

All after all in outdoor ed this year we needed to use many capabilities but the main ones were collaboration and communication. These capabilities were a must in order to have the most fun and minimize the risk of injuries.

Innovate ED reflection

this term in Innovate ED we had a choice of what we wanted to do and I chose STEM sport and in that, we got to choose a sport we wanted to focus on. Me and some mates chose basketball, once we chose our sport we chose to focus on different variables every week. One week we focused on feet placement and angle, the next was the arc of the shot, then speed and finally form. we compared these to Steph curry to see how we should improve shot to make more jumpers in-game. after we did the research and compared our shots we changed our shots to see if we made more shots with the new information that we found.

Reflection on Salvos redesign

Our group worked on trying to redesign the Salvation army’s storeroom and marketplace to make it more inviting and to make it more efficient for the people using it and the people organising it.

some things we did to help make the marketplace more welcoming was to come up with different ideas and we found different colours that looked inviting and bright to lighten the mood also to make people happier.

Some things we did to help the organisation of the storeroom and the marketplace was come up with ideas on how to organise different items of food, hygiene, clothes and toys, also we found different ways in those categories to organise them further and make it easier to find different items.

We also had to work together and communicate with the salvation army in order to find the dimensions of the storeroom and marketplace in order to have the most effective use of our time. Because of corona we weren’t able to visit them and view for ourselves what could make it the most welcoming place.

My reflection on COVID-19

As a person, I learnt that I was able to focus on things better and get things done faster, also I was more motivated to do things because I had nothing else to do, also it was good and bad that I could spend more time with my family.

As a family, we got closer and talked more and got to spend more time and we could do more things together.

as a community it was good being able to teach myself stuff which I like better, also everyone put into online school to help get it started and to keep going, also it was nice that I could finish my work fast and then move onto something that I wanted to do.
