Science – Sleek Geeks Competition

What was the project?

The project that we have been working on is a task in which we are supposed to create an informational video on any appropriate platform following the scientific topic of ‘change’ discussing any area relating to the theme. The success criteria of our video involved it having to be an engaging, entertaining and educational video that was clearly and accurately explain, but simple and amusing enough for young children to understand and want to watch. Our video was presented in form of a ‘parody’ of a popular music video titled ‘Save Your Tears’ by The Weeknd, discussing the theme ‘change’ through the topic of the three states of matter. We replaced the lyrics with words that explain the process while still matching the tune and flow of the song.

How did we organize our group?

Our group worked cohesively and cooperatively due to many factors including friendships, previous collaborations and the fact that we worked well together in general. We didn’t have roles and I feel that we contributed fairly equally. Everyone was given the opportunity to, and did, share their thoughts and ideas. I do feel, that if we were to improve on an aspect is that we would make sure that we had proper forms of contact with all members, as some were either always busy or out of touch, making things harder to organize. Overall, I am happy with how my group and I performed.

Did we have any disagreements? How did we work around them?

As previously mentioned, our group worked well together and faced little to no problems or conflicts in terms of cooperation. For the minor ones that we did face, we agreed on a compromise that we all felt comfortable with, for example, altering the lyric to fit in all of our ideas or an equal balance of them. In the future I would give us more time to discuss lyrics so that it was more even, as some members were less inclusive to others’ ideas.

How did we manage our time?

Our group began with a time plan, and although we did not precisely and exactly follow it, it proved useful in knowing what we had to do left or to do each lesson. Things like filming became more difficult because of costumes, time, equipment and such, but we problem-solved, worked around it and found solutions. We did finish all of our filming and recording on time, however, we encountered an error in the editing of it due to technical issues, but we overcame it quickly with help. I would ask members of my group to set reminders for our filming so that costumes were organized and remembered and that we did more work at home (things like recordings) to save time.
