Task 1: My House of Values

  • House:

Paragraph for values:

Fun

Trust

Success

Fun: The value of fun is to enjoy and to be fun. To be able to be fun, you would need to enjoy your life. The value Fun is important to me because fun can bring me happiness, positivity, and energy. During the course of my life, I may encounter many hardships, unfortunate events, and failures, fun can so let me feel that there is a positive and bright side of my life, it reminds that there are still many fun activities, targets or events that I can see, feel and do, and to keep positive attitude of myself and to give me energy so my life can keep going beautifully. I also believe living should be with fun and joy, and this is one of the most important satisfactions that people are targeting for after all, fun at work, fun between friends, and fun in the family. Since fun is so important to me, when I choose to do certain things, I will see if it is fun. If it is not fun, I would prefer not to do it and put it on one side. Because of this reason, I prefer choosing funny friends so we can always have fun interactions.

Trust: The value of trust is to believe Trust is very important to me as well because it represents strong confidence, reliability, honesty and capability between me and other people. Trust is not an easy thing, it does not exist naturally. In many situations, people suspect and in doubt. You can trust or distrust someone instantly by looking at his or her eyes, but in many cases, it is established from a long and deep relationship. When someone trusts you, you can do things freely, up to his or her requirement, or to keep certain secrets for them, as they think you are a reliable person, vice versa. I like those feelings and as a result, I value trust deeply and it has been one of my important core values. Due to this reason, I choose friends carefully and gradually, it has to be someone I can trust, and someone who can trust me as well. There is no meaning to be friends if trust does not exist between them.

Success: The value of success is to Success is also important to me because it is an aim and a force to help me to get what I want during the course of my life. People have various goals that they need to achieve in different stages of their life, and in many cases, one success is built on another success, so we can advance and feel fulfillment. As a teenager, I want success in study so I can have more choices and a better path in the future. When I become an adult, I expect success in my career so I can earn enough money for a better life for myself and my family. Therefore, success is a very important core value, it always reminds me how hard I have to work, in order to obtain what I desire. I know everyone has some kind of desire or something they want to achieve. It would be nice if everyone can do whatever they can to help each other to succeed.

Task 2:

Healthy person: Markus Persson

Markus Persson
  1. What behaviours does this person demonstrate to show that they are healthy? There was a quote that whenever you are doing something, you will have to take a break when you playing.
  2. What do they look like? Are they healthy? How do you know? They look healthy because they are not sick or unhealthy.
  3. What message does this person promote? Why is it inspiring and healthy? Always take a break when you play any games because you need to give your eyes a break.
  4. Why should young people look up to this person as a role model? People play more games now so then the quote would really help the people.
  5. Thinking back to your House of Values activity, what values does this person demonstrate? Success, Fun and Creativity.

Unhealthy person: Lance Armstrong

Lance Armstrong
  1. What behaviours does this person demonstrate to show that they are unhealthy? Lance Edward Armstrong shows that he is unhealthy as he wrongly chose to take illegal drugs to enhance his performance in the cycling competitions. He is also dishonest which is first unfair to other competitors, second, the wins were not meaningful. The consequences not only destroy his career, but also let down millions of his fans around the world, and negatively affect the reputation of his teammates and the image of his country.
  2. What do they look like? Do they look unhealthy? How do you know? Lance looks like a legend, a professional, a famous athlete and a great achiever for many of us, but he is not a healthy role model for young people, especially in Peter Attia’s interview, many swear words have been mentioned. Even Lance had described how he suffered headaches, blurry vision, and coughing up blood, and how he started to use the EPO drugs and noticed how the drugs make him perform faster and received great results, he still chose to have the drugs and participated in the competitions. He did not demonstrate honor, trust and respect, to himself and others. Through the interview and articles, Lance admitted using illegal performance-enhancing drugs.
  3. What message does this celebrity promote? Why is it unhealthy? Amazing results created by a person’s years of effort can vanish overnight. When you make a wrong decision, your life will face a major change, and it will also cause great impact to society, not to mention public figures. This was what happened when Lance admitted that he took illegal drugs in the 2013 race. Millions of people around the world were shocked at this remarkable event in the history of professional sports. He is not a healthy idol because he planned to take illegal performance-enhancing drugs and used it for a long period of time to achieve such an amazing result. This is not a positive guide to inspire others or anyone.
  4. Do you think young people should look up to this person as a role model? Why or why not? I don’t think young people should use Lance as a goal to learn from but as a goal to be vigilant against themselves. But one thing I think is worth learning from for our young people, is his determination to fight with cancer. When the doctor said that he had no survival rate at all, he fought cancer very hard and lived until now; when he recovered, he admitted his mistake and shared it with the public, also to face the consequences caused by the mistakes in the public speeches. He also tried to rebuild the trust and not give up and still return to his passion.
  5. Is everything you hear, read or see in the media true? Discuss. Definitely not everything is true, or totally true, they may give fake news or biased information. Why is that? To cite some examples, the writers may have particular political views that they want to influence readers’ views. Some advertisers, as the financial source of the media, may request the media to only talk about good news about them. Some media may be owned by some tycoon who uses the media as a tool to control the perspectives of the public and to achieve their goals behind. Nowadays, it is unsafe and unreliable to obtain news from only one or two sources. As a serious news receiver, it is our duty and responsibility to hear, read or see from multiple media in order to receive the closest to true information.
