Letter to the Government (Hass)

The project is to write a letter to the government about an issue that we get to choise. Since we get to choose the issue, I chose homelessness because I was intrested in it and I want to know more about it.

Dear Mr Milner,

I am writing to you as a member of the Western Australian community to express my concern over a homeless issue that has been existing for many years, and the situation worsen particularly in the past 2 years.

I have recently learnt that due to the merciless influences of COVID-19, a significant number of civilians have lost their jobs and become homeless. People who are homeless out there has no access to accommodation are first unsafe, and unhealthy and causes depression. Homeless people living on the roads or beside the streets are dangerous since cars can run over them if they are careless, caught in storms, and risk premature death.

Living on the roads or beside the street is not suitable for anyone. The people who are living there can increase their chance of death easily. 9000 people in Perth are homeless and have no place to live or have no access to accommodations. This is awful since this can cause mental health issues such as depression. Worrying about their living situation and where they can get their meals can make them feel insecure and mentally unstable. Therefore, it needs to be stable so that homeless people do not feel left out, do not develop harmful conditions like depression and have a lesser chance of death.

Having a safe and warm home is physically and psychologically essential for children and adults. If people are homeless, they will lack a sense of safety and certainty. Then, it can also mean they are easily hurt and have an increased chance of death. To be able to fix this problem is if they have a place where they can feel secure and have a place where they can live and have food instead of being homeless lonely, insecure, poor, and hungry.

Helping them should not be too difficult. Government can seek a number of temporary locations to construct apartments, especially for them. Once they have settled down, the government can assist them to look for a job and be back to a life they can work and live normally and healthily.

I know nothing is perfect, but I deeply believe that there is more than our government definitely can do to assist those homeless people, to give them a shelter to feel warmth, safety and security. How wonderful it is when we see smiles on their faces again. Let the government gives more sympathy to those who are in need and be the entity that the Australian loves.

Thank you for your attention and time. I would be more than happy to talk about this with you and look forward to receiving your reply.

Yours Sincerely,

Sau Yu Cheung
