The binge drinking expo was a health project where we researched and learnt about different aspects of binge drinking and underage drinking and then got into group where we created ways to display our learning. Some people did trivia ‘beer’ pong or made board games. Our group, Anna, Muskan, Penelope, and I made a Jenga trivia game. We collaborated to make different posters and information sheets that the contestants had to look at before we quizzed them. The aim of the game was to have the most sprite in your cup (we changed it from being the least) and the winner would get a lolly.

Reflection/Evaluation

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

The most important things I learnt during this task was exactly how hard decisions can be, even if theoretically there’s an obvious choice, when there’s peer pressure and stereotypes of what people typically do. When going through scenarios about being asked to go to a party or drink when you’re not really in the position, it’s easy to make decisions on what’s right. However, when you’re actually in the position and there are expectations and friend pressure, it’s hard to distinguish what you should do.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young teenagers above all else? Why?

I would tell them to make sure that they make the best decisions they can whether it’s on controlling how much you drink, whether or not you drink, what parties you go to, who you let influence you etc. Asking a teenager to not drink is completely unreasonable and unrealistic however, as long as you do everything in moderation and make good decisions, it can reduce the damage that alcohol might make.

How did you and your group members work together? What did you do well and what could have been improved?

I think our group members worked pretty well together because we all got along meaning we didn’t have fights, we compromised on most things, and did our best to split up the roles based on what our skills were. Some things we did well were collaboration and keeping in contact through Messages, Teams etc., splitting up our roles pretty evenly, and organisation before the presentation.  Some things that we could have improved on was working more efficiently during lessons because if we did, we probably would have been able to do something extra.
