English Reflection 2023

Overall, I think I have done well in English this year. I believe I have improved my preparation towards assessments, and I am better at handling bigger, more overwhelming assessments. I have gained confidence and efficiency in some areas, in particular class essays. I believe I have gained effectiveness in preparing for essays and improved on analysing different texts.

One assessment I enjoyed working on was my short story. It was in my strength areas as I love reading thriller novels and I enjoy creating stories and building characters. I really enjoyed constructing characters, setting, and creating a creepy, unsettling mystery. I was concentrated on my main character having quite drastic character development. He went from being a cheerful person to a scared, vulnerable man. I was also very intent on creating fast pacing to keep the reader engaged and creating plenty of hooks.

I was very pleased to see my result for this assignment as I had put in lots of effort and heavily edited my work for weeks before the due date. I was proud of the characters I had created and the story I constructed.

Next year, I will focus on improving my ability to be confident in an aural presentation, as I get tongue tied when presenting and would like to rely less on reading my palm cards. I would also like to be more flexible when preparing for essays, especially essays with multiple questions, by making sure I understand all elements of the text.
