Muir – Outdoor Ed

Muir – Outdoor ED

In Muir, we learn skills for outdoor ED like snorkeling, orienteering, artery and how to leave no trays. In term 3 we did orienteering at the school and at locations out of school and we did artery once a week then at the end of the term we did a bit of practice for snorkeling in the pool. At the start of term 4, we did snorkeling at Coogee in our doubles and in the single lessons we prepared for our camp. In the middle of term 4, we had our camp at Rottnest.

Orienteering

In term 3 we spent a couple of lessons learning how to use the equipment for orienteering then we did a couple of cores at school before we went out of school to a park and did some cores there. This taught us to have effective communication as we had to talk to each other to make sure we were going in the right direction. If we didn’t communicate we could have ended up doing in the wrong direction and getting lost. It took me a bit of time to figure out how to use the different equipment but wons I asked my friend if I know what I was doing it was a lot of fun.

Artery

In term 3 we also did artery for 7 lesions which was very fun as I haven’t done artery before. I leant that I had to be self aware of what I was doing and making sure that I was being save. When we did artery we had to make sure that we where lesioning to her and not going out or shooting before we where told to. If we did do this we would have shot someone or got shot.

Snorkelling

In term 4 we did snorkeling at Coogee for 3 lesson. We would have to make sure that we where organized so that we could make the most of the time we spent there. We did this by make sure we where on time and we had all of the equipment that we need. We also got our wetsuit on it the bus so when we get to Coogee we can go straight in. After we has done your 3 lessons we went on a camp to Rottnest for one night. On the first day we did two snorkeling sections at Little Parakeet Bay. It was very cold but the scenery was very nice. On the second day we went to the Basin and did one big snorkel this snorkel tired me out as the current was quite strong and it was wavy, but it was very deep and there where some big fish. Overall this camp was one of my favorite because it was very chill and the activity’s we did where fun.

Leave No Trease

We also learned about what leave no trace is and how we can do our part in leaving not trace. We learned that if we don’t have reef safe sunscreen be can still help my putting sunscreen on 20 min before so it can sink in. we also learned not to stand on the reef so be don’t break it off or damage it. Leave no trace is a vital part of outdoor ed.
