Project Utopia- Yr 7

In English, we read a book called The Giver by Lois Lowry. In The Giver, it is a utopian world where everything is perfect and nothing bad ever happened, but The Giver wasn’t a utopia because no one had any choice of what they wanted to do and who they wanted to be with. We had to understand what is perceived as a perfect world. This led to our project utopia where we had to create a utopian world, we had the opportunity to redesign the Fremantle port. In the first week of this project, we met with Ms. Lockwood who is the deputy chair of WA. This was very interesting, and we learned how important this project would be.

We used the Global Goals in our Fremantle Redesign, the goals that we incorporated were Goal 11, Goal 7, and Goal 13. We incorporated goal eleven because we wanted to make the new port a more sustainable city, we used goal seven by making the scooters and busses more sustainable by using clean energy. We developed a place that used climate action (Goal 13). We utilized these goals because they linked to the main idea that we were focusing on.

OUR IDEA:

At first, we had the idea of a Ferry to your apartment, we didn’t like the idea of the Ferry so, we decided to switch to focusing on transport and clean and sustainable energy for that transport, also someone in our group wanted to do green space but, we decided against this idea and stuck with transport.

EXCURSION:

During the project we went on an excursion to Fremantle, our group split up and went to three different locations: Port Beach, E-shed, and Rainbow bridge. We each collected information on the area that we went to and brought it back to our groups for the next lesson. We learned lots of new and useful pieces of information.

MODES OF TRANSPORT:

We thought of three modes of transport: Electric Scooters, Busses, and Ferrys. But we wanted to make transport more sustainable, so we did research and we found out about Hydrogen Busses that they are more sustainable for the environment.

      Capability Wheel:

At ASC we have a capability wheel which was a key part of our project. I used problem-solving, collaboration, creativity, leadership

Problem Solving: I used problem-solving by resolving group arguments and creating solutions to rising problems in our idea.

Collaboration: We utilized collaboration in our group because we had to collaborate with each other to think of good ideas.

Creativity: Our group was kind of creative because we thought of using hydrogen buses instead of using normal buses and I it is more sustainable.

Leadership: We incorporated leadership in this project so we could focus on a clear direction.

Our group only used one livability factor and that was the climate. We used climate in our project because our idea was based around helping to make the climate more sustainable.

We had to create vision boards with all our ideas on them. On our vision board, we added the things that were necessary on it and what were related/ ideas that we had during our project.
