In November of 2022, I participated in the work experience program.

For my work experience, I went back to my Primary School, Banksia Park Primary School. I was initially placed into my old year one class and spent the week in the classroom. On the second day, I was also invited into the Kindy classroom which was super exciting. I spent the week alternating my time between these two classrooms.

In the year one classroom, I helped run morning activities such as morning maths, sports and art classes. I was also placed with two students. One boy was highly advanced in maths so I spent time with him guiding him through year 3 maths and helping with timetables. The other student had missed lots of kindy and pre-primary due to illness and so I helped her with reading, writing and maths and formed a very close bond with her throughout the week. There was also a student in the class who suffered from many disabilities including autism. I spent a lot of time with him, doing sensory activities and helping him with simple timetables. This inspired me to go on to do a Bachelor of Education at Murdoch University with a Minor in Inclusive Education (working with children with special needs) when I graduate at the end of the year.

In the kindy class, I worked with the children doing activities such as learning letters in the alphabet and writing their names. As it was ending the year the teacher was also preparing the students’ workbooks so I spent some time sorting through work and filing it in each child’s book. I also helped students to do numerous Christmas activities and at times helped them prepare for lunchtime.
