Christmas Market

This is my Christmas Market reflection!

The Christmas Market is an Annual Event for All Saints’ College Yr 7s to have some fun but also learn about investments and about starting a business. On November 20th we sold our products at the common trying to make a profit so that we could give the the extra money to the Salvation Army to help people in need so they can have a Merry Christmas.

Empathise

This project started when we needed to interview different people in our InnovatED group about what Christmas means to them and what they thought what Christmas meant for other age groups. We then had to fill out a table of what eco-friendly gifts we could make and give to people for Christmas.

Ideate

After that we did that we picked our groups and started generating possible ideas we could make and pitch for the Christmas Market. One of our groups first ideas was to make stickers and sell them but they would have to be really cheap for them to sell or really good quality at a low price so then we came up with the idea for painted CDs that can be used for decoration but could also be used as coasters, which we ended up settling for.

Pitch and Prototype

Next we had to do a pitch for our product so we could get the $30 investment, we needed to fill out a table first which had questions like ‘Who is our target audience?’ and ‘Is this idea realistic in the timeframe we have?’. Our first attempt wasn’t successful but we could make a prototype to show what our product would look like, then we pitched for the 2nd time and we got the investment. Next we had to make the product.

Writing and Designing

The materials we used were mainly from Kmart and other cheap stores like spotlight, and in the sessions we had our group peel the previous designs off the CDs with duct tape. We brought in and drew designs on them after with sharpie and with other CDs we glued felt under it to make it less slippery so it could be a coaster. A lot of the designs our group made that we decided to not sell but the ones we did, they sold out.

The Christmas Market

The Christmas Market was a really fun experience and our group sold out on everything which I was really happy about that but nearing the end of the Christmas Market we had to drop our price really low because we were pretty desperate. Overall the Christmas Market Project was a very enjoyable to be apart of.
