As part of my elective Muir we went to Rottenest for a day. After practicing at school for a term we went to snorkel at the Basin. We took the ferry and when we got there we spilt into our groups and rotated snorkeling between the 3 groups.
Overall, the day was Lots of fun there were a couple things we had to be mindful of such as other people, the environment and making sure not to touch the reef. We did not see much in the water but we did see a lot of different types of fish but on land we saw lots of quokkas and birds. My snorkeling skills were good and much better than in the pool because we went and practiced at Coogee. I found it difficult to equalize my ears because I was not blowing out enough. I found duck diving quite easy, and it got easier the more I did it. Me and my buddy sienna worked well together other than a few things such as being too close and at one point I got lost cause I thought other people were my group members but other than that we worked and communicated well outside and inside the water. I liked how we got to swim and then we got a break, it felt like we had a lot of freedom and we had lots of time to socialize. I also liked how people from other classes joined our class, I thought it would be bad, but it ended up being good and I talked to new people. For next year I think it would be a good idea for us to snorkel in a few different spots. I also think it would be good if we could buy lunch on the island. I rate my experience a 9/10 because I had a lot of fun and would recommend it for others.

- Plan ahead and prepare.
- when we got there we located the bins and made sure we put our rubbish in them
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
- we set up on established paths and benches
- Dispose of waste properly.
- There were 3 diffrent bins for disposing of waste
- Leave what you find.
- When snorkeling we didnt take anything from the water
- Minimize campfire impacts (be careful with fire).
- we didnt make a fire
- Respect wildlife.
- We respected plants and animals
- Be considerate of other visitors.
- there were other people there and we didnt disturb them
