Health – Drinking Project

Overview

In Term 3, we have been learning about drinking and its dangers. Our task was to get creative and educate our peers in any way we would like. We had to include 3-4 different topics on drinking. We then had to create a stall and then another class would come and view our stalls. In my group, I had Ruby and Poppy. My group decided to do an educational rap that I wrote from scratch as we have already done 2 in the past. Along with that I also made a Kahoot to quiz our peers. Overall, I enjoyed it and found it a fun way to learn about binge drinking.

Reflection

What were the biggest things you learnt while completing this task?

I learned a lot during this task, both about drinking and other skills. Because I did most of the research, I definitely learned things I never knew, such as a standard drink size and what BAC is. I also learned all the short and long-term effects of drinking too much alcohol. In terms of skills, I learnt that time management is vitally important no matter the project. You should always set deadlines and tasks whenever in a group project otherwise nothing gets done. I also learnt how to creatively create educational raps, I like songwriting and I find it exciting to do. I enhanced my musicality and people including teachers really liked my rap.

What one piece of advice would you pass on to young teenagers above all else? Why?

I would definitely tell them that drinking at a young age isn’t worth it. Even if your friends are, it doesn’t make you cool. In fact, it is the total opposite of cool. You could get serious effects such as vomiting and aggression. There are also a lot of long-term effects that can be very damaging. This could be heart failure, brain diseases and a lot more. When you are over 18 and legally allowed to drink, don’t drink too much, it can cost you. Only drink small portions and not often.

How did you and your group members work together? What did you do well and what could have been improved?

I definitely enjoyed working with my group. Poppy, Ruby and I have made 3 educational raps in total and each one was better than the first. The processes were always fun and enjoyable. To be honest, this time round was a lot tougher than the others. This was the first time I did the majority of the work which I spent a lot of time on. I created the rap, made the quiz and kept my group organized. My group members also tend to sometimes get distracted which caused a little bit of frustration as I wanted to carry on with the work. Therefore something we could definitely improve on is keeping on track and splitting the work evenly. However, there were a lot of things we did well in. This was like making sure we were ready on the day, finishing everything we had to do and always eager to do our rap. We recorded our rap well and it turned out really good. Overall despite some flaws, we did pretty well and I would always love to work with them again as they are fun and supportive individuals.
