Health Reflection

This unit couldn’t have come at a better time.  Some social media platforms I currently have are Instagram & Snap. And this unit helped me develop myself on those platforms.  This unit has taught me a lot on a personal level. I have used some of the strategies  I’ve learnt from this unit on those platforms when dealing with negativity on social media.  I appreciate this unit being taught and I have learnt so much.  These are things that I will take on with me for the rest of my online life.

Online Platforms I used and still continue to use are  Google, Youtube, Netflix, Instagram, SnapChat.  And after learning about Critical Thinking and how to involve ERIC in my online life as well, my goal is to implement what we have been taught on the daily in the future on real-life and especially online.

From this Unit, and especially form the clips we have looked at in class I have learnt these things. Also, these points are all thoroughly elaborated on my padlet.

Dolly’s Story taught me about how by-standing is never okay. I definitely want to be an upstander in all appropriate situations where an upstander is necessary.

I have learnt to block or report people who abuse the privilege and responsibility of being a kind and considerate person on social media.

I have acquired the knowledge of knowing when and what to respond to negative posts or comments on social media.

Georgie Gardener’s story has inspired me to ‘kill’ them with kindness.   This explains that if I happen to come across inappropriate or mean behaviour on social media,  I would respond in a constructive, respectful and kind way rather than having an unnecessary outburst and replying with a disrespectful response.

My main take back from this unit is polishing my critical thinking skills. Each time I am on a social media platform, I need to make sure that ERIC is reflected through all my posts and comments.

I also learnt not to believe everything on social media as we might find fabricated stories which have got no relevance with our lives.

How has this learning affected your online life?

Tellyonm is an app where one can send anonymous messages to one another.  Personally, I strongly dislike this app. I feel that if you were to send somebody a message you should have no worries to know that it’s from you.  Supposedly, tellyonm is an app where people should share kind things to one another. But if I really cared about the person and wanted to compliment them I have no problems with them knowing what I said. This is just an opportunity to spread negativity around and hurt somebody’s feelings, but they would never get caught as it is anonymous!

After experiencing a hard time with this app, and working on this unit I have decided to change the way I react to negative things on this app.  Before when I saw negative things about me I would keep it all to myself. I wouldn’t tell anyone, I wouldn’t confront them, would just let it all happen and let them continue in their disrespectful behaviours.  But this caused me a lot of pain, all because of a person who didn’t think before they posted.  But I chose the wrong way to respond and I’m thankful to my friends who stood up for me and helped me to get to respond in the right way. The way that this unit taught me.

Do you plan to change your online behaviour in the future? I do…

So from now, whenever I see negative behaviour online I will handle it appropriately by either reporting or blocking the offender. Or responding to them in a constructive, and kind manner.
