Year 10 HASS Project Progress Update

This year in HASS, year 10 students have been challenged to create a project of their choice, based off one or more of the four key aspects of Humanities: civics, history, economics, and geography. Their final project will be displayed in a final exhibition in term 4 where parents will be invited for the showcase. Our group, consisting of Casey, Vincent, and me, chose to focus on the concepts of economics and history. Specifically, we will be researching and presenting a project based on what soldiers from different sides of World War 2 ate during war. At the exhibition, we will set up a stall that will sell World War 2 soldier ration packs from different sides of the war. The economics section will be incorporated using a stall that will sell product for money. The history section will be incorporated using the research we will find about food for soldiers in World War 2.

Our group, so far has creates an annotated bibliography containing research on what soldiers ate during World War 2 from 10 different sources. It showed what the soldiers ate on different sides of the war, and how the troops of different countries were fueled and the system used to fill the troops up.

We still have to set up the stall for the exhibition in term 4. This includes getting the table, getting the EFTPOS machine and the cash register, cooking all the food needed and also making the stall look good. We also have to do a bit more research into the type of food we will serve. We also need to prepare the menu for the “restaurant”.

We believe this is a good opportunity for us to show what soldier in World War 2 ate on a daily basis and to appreciate the soldiers for going to war with these conditions.
