InnovatED Jewellery

I chose to do this InnovatED because I felt like I wanted to expand my creative brain more, and I also enjoy accessorising myself with earrings and necklaces. I also wanted to connect with children in hospitals who need extra joy in their lives.

Firstly, I spent time designing the bracelets with Ebonnie, and we collaborated on our designs together and spent time making a beachy style bracelet. We gathered the beads, the crimps and the clasps.  Unfortunately, our bracelet ended up being too big, so we had to resize it. By this point, I had learnt to be extra patient with this whole process, and even created a few designs of my own.

The next week, by myself I made a bronze – seashell-themed bracelet. I was more confident and really enjoyed the whole process. I made it the correct size, and it looked really cute. I also created a pink beaded bracelet.

The next week I began searching for hospitals to contact. I had already received a contact from a peer, and I began writing a professional-sounding email. I received lots of constructive criticism from Miss L, which really helped my email sound better, and make more sense. The letter was difficult to start but once I knew what the structure was, it was easy.

This was my progress when constructing my email.

Unfortunately, the hospitals had a strict policy that they could not accept second-hand items. This was unfortunate because everyone had prepared messages for the sick children and we had lots of bracelets leftover.

We learnt about the Runway Market and asked if we could participate in that by selling our products in that. We were permitted to create even more things with the beads as we had lots left over.

Scarlett and I created beautiful patterns with the beads on photo frames that Miss Elscot found on the side of the street. We created one which resembled a beach, one with a white wedding theme, and one with lotus flowers and gold beads. The designs were beautiful and we stuck the beads on using hot glue.

I really enjoyed this InnovatED rotation because I really got to expand my creative brain and I got to collaborate with people I would never normally collaborate with.
