In All Saints’ College, we use the Capabilities Wheel in almost everything we do. This wheel is a set of skills and values which we use as a guide to help us with our work. These skills are transferrable and apply to everything we do. This year in English, we used a variety of these capabilities, particularly certain skills such as collaboration and learner agency. These skills were mainly useful in group projects we took part in, such as the Current Affairs video project, and the Minecraft school project. The Current Affairs video project was a task where we had to create a realistic segment of the show, about certain imaginary, local news topics. In our group, we needed to collaborate and negotiate about whose script we wanted to use for the task. Collaboration was a significant part of this project because this was a time when COVID-19 was prevalent, and multiple people including myself had the virus. Because of this, I needed to adapt and use my learner agency by seeking assistance from other groups to help with the filming process. We also needed to effectively communicate with each other to ensure that everyone understood what we were doing because it is a lot harder to communicate online. I also used my learner agency to ask for feedback throughout our filming and production process.

We also used collaboration and learner agency when creating our Minecraft schools. The point of this project was to design a unique school where people could learn. In our groups, we needed to collaborate and effectively communicate with each other to design and produce the school. We needed to discuss what blocks to use and how we were going to divide and conquer to build different areas of the school. Some examples of collaboration we used were listening to others, including everybody’s ideas, and making a plan of what we can do in the future. In this project, I also used my learner agency by getting ahead and using initiative.
