As a part of this HASS project, my group has/will create a café/stall selling WW2 soldiers rations. As a part of our café we will be selling food and drink which would be samples from both the axis and allied sides. Since the last project update we have made progress in a number of areas. As of last time we have made a researched further into specific foods from both the allied and axis sides, created a menu, made a budget (taking into account the costs of the food and equipment we need and what we are going to do with our profit) and created some posters elaborating on some interesting parts of soldiers rations and general lifestyle.
Menu: We have decided to make one main meal from axis and allied sides and include drinks from both sides. With this in mind we chose to make tomato soup and a couple teas for the allied side of the menu, as for the axis side we went with minced chicken and veggies, coffee and Pervitin (chocolate).
Budget: In this aspect of the project we included the price and amount of all the equipment and ingredients, the quantity of product that should make and what we are going to be selling the product for. Over all we will need to spend $136 on all of the food and equipment leading to a profit of $166 (if we manage to sell everything). We also decided on donating whatever profit we make to the Jewish Holocaust Centre.
Our plan: In the next few weeks we will need to; prepare/make the food, buy all of the ingredients and equipment, create more posters and create a war sound playlist, to add to the aroma/atmosphere of our stall. So, during the remaining HASS lessons my group shall be making and finalising both our war sound playlist, and our posters which we are planning to get done prior to week 5. During week 5 HASS lessons we shall be printing all of the posters and beginning to set up our stall. Then on the weekend between week 4 and 5 we shall buy all of the ingredients and equipment that we need and begin the cooking prosses which will then be finished on week 5 Tuesday.
What’s changed? Over the course of this project, the idea/plan of our product has changed greatly which has largely been through discussion within the group as we went along, and the feedback from Mr Bassel. Originally we wanted to make many more dishes and more accurately recreate more of the soldiers rations, however we have strayed from that original idea to make only 2 ‘main’ meals one being from each side of the war and a few extras. This has allowed us to be much more economical and have a much greater chance of making a profit as we could buy more products in bulk along with it being easier to control/manage.
