Task 1- My House of Values
Love-
To me love is an important value because I believe it brings people together and it shows them that they mean a lot to you. When you love someone or something it brings you happiness and pushes away all the negative things/thoughts etc. Love inspires you to work harder because you want to make the people in your life happy. It teaches you patience and sometimes it drives you crazy but that’s what makes you realize it’s so precious. Love impacts the way I live my life because if I am about to make a decision I must think first to see if it will hurt someone I love or if it will affect them and then it changes my mindset.
Trust-
Trust is an important value to me personally because I believe it helps people open up and be more honest/straightforward with you. I believe it stabilizes relationships with people because they know they can trust and count on you with anything. Trust makes you feel safe to share things with others which is a good feeling. I would say that trust impacts the way I live my life because it strengthens my relationships with others. It also impacts my life because it changes the way I think instead of holding something in I can just rely on someone to share and not be afraid.
Family-
Family is one of the most important values to me because they are like your number 1 support system. Family doesn’t always have to be blood they just have to love you and make you feel like you are safe and appreciated. They are the only people who will always be there for you. Family impacts the way I live my life because they change my mindset and make me wanna try my hardest in everything. They also change my mood and always make me laugh and create a positive mindset in my mind.
Task 2- Who are your Role Models
Healthy/Good Role model- Zendaya
This is Zendaya. She is a model, singer, dancer and actor: in both film and voice.
By researching Zendaya in many different ways she shows that she is a good role model with her behaviour. She shows this by being honest to the world for e.g. she did a model shoot one time and they had told her beforehand that there should be no editing done to her body. When the photos came out they were clearly edited and she made a post saying that this was not the real her and then followed it by putting the real photo which goes to show that she is putting realistic images in peoples minds that not everyone is perfect and what they seem to be online. Another thing that she did which reflected on her behaviour of being a good role model is that on her 18th birthday she spent her time raising money for the charity feedONE with a goal to feed at least 150 children in Haiti, Philippines and Tanzania. She states that “Too many kids will go back to school hungry this year, but we can do something about that. My generation has the opportunity to change the world. With Convoy of Hope, I’ve raised my voice and am using it to give people hope.” I think this shows that she isn’t just all looks, she is always trying to help others (when possible) which is a good behavioral aspect of a good role model.
Zendaya promotes many different types of messages. She promotes the message of body positivity and isn’t afraid to show herself to the world which can help young girls who struggle with their body image have someone to look up to and change their mindset. Another one of the major messages she promotes is self love and one of the ways she promoted self love was by creating a clothing brand called Daya by Zendaya and the main goal of it was to help people with gaining self love and feeling empowered. I think these messages are quite healthy and inspiring because they help you to keep it real to yourself and it shows you that not everything is as it seems on social media but also because when you someone as a big as Zendaya speaking about self love and body positivity it can real change your perspective on things.
I think young people should look up to Zendaya because she has traits which are very desirable and good to have. This includes things like standing up for other women, being a humble person in general and just down to earth, keeping it real, being a motivated person and having strong family bonds. Another reason is that she is a good influence and if she is having an influence on anyone it’s in a good way.
Going back to my house of values, I think Zendaya demonstrates the value of honesty as she puts up an image of herself which is imperfect and isn’t hiding any of her flaws. This gives a good message to everyone out there which I discussed earlier. I think she also demonstrates self respect as she stands up for herself whenever she is being wronged and she respects herself to much not to.
Unhealthy/Bad Role Model- Kanye West
This is Kanye West. He is considered many things but in simple terms he is a song writer/Entrepreneur.
Kanye West is considered and unhealthy role model for many reasons. One of the reasons is that he makes bad choices or makes disagreeable statements for e.g. he stated that slavery was a choice which upset many people and they were quite disappointed by what he said but most of all shocked. Another behaviour which caused Kanye to be classified as an unhealthy role model was when Taylor Swift won an award and he went on stage and said “Taylor ima let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best albums of all time”. This caused a hatred towards him considering this was disrespectful and rude move and he should have let Taylor have her moment.
Kanye is a master of art and the message he tries to promote is for people to buy his music/albums. I think this is unhealthy starting of with the fact that this is such a surface level thing to promote. It doesn’t help anyone and it only benefits him. He isn’t trying to promote a message to the people who support him but only sell his music. There may be other messages he is wanting to spread but this is what I’ve come across.
I don’t think young people should look up to Kanye West due to his actions in the past. He has done some considerable things and I don’t think young people should be following what he has done. Yes, they may want to be successful which he clearly is but you don’t have to have done some questionable things to be successful.
Social Media is a huge thing. Nowadays kids can’t live without it but what they done realize is that online vs real life are 2 entirely different things. Social Media does not capture everyone’s true self. It shows you the perfect side, the side with no flaws but what you need to know is nothing you see online is true. People manipulate things on social media whether it’s a photo that’s photoshopped or someone in the wrong changing the story to get sympathy from others. Don’t let it change you, follow the healthy role models, the ones that capture the true side of things.
