Leadership on Year 9 Camp 2020

In late July we were lucky enough to go to Kalbarri for our year 9 camp. The camp was an adventure camp where every day we walked, went to places around Kalbarri, swam and did team building activities. Here I showed leadership by helping our group make decisions like what we were going to do and when we wanted to do it. This camp was a fun and eventful experience, and everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.  I think that I improved my Teamwork and Leadership skills through this camp which I am very grateful for.

On camp, there were multiple times where I showed Leadership in my group on camp. In our group, we had a rotation between 4 different subgroups that would help our group out in different groups. The different groups were Cooking, Environment, Hygiene and Leadership. Every day you rotated through a different group. On the first day and night, I was in the Leadership group with Solomon and Alex. We were in charge of making all the decisions for our group about what we wanted to do and when. An example of what we did was on the first day when we got to Kalbarri was deciding to go swimming. We saw another group go down to the river to go for a swim and our group decided we wanted to as well. We wanted to go because it was hot, and we were all cramped for being on the bus and everyone wanted to go swimming. Solomon, Alex, and I made the decision to go swimming then make dinner. Everyone was happy with this decision and everyone was happier than if we just stayed at the camp and made dinner.

The next day we made more decisions that benefited our group. We went to the coastal cliffs, but we decided that we would spend a decent amount of time there but not a lot because we wanted to go back and have a swim. Me, Sol and Alex decided that we wanted to go to Pot Alley beach and Mushroom rock so we could still see some of the cliffs and oceans and have a walk as well as being back in time to pack our stuff and have a swim. Later that night us three decided that we wanted to take our group on a late-night walk to look at the stars. I personally decided we should go to the lookout because there was a waterfall and it was really nice.

I think I showed lots of leadership on this camp and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to go on this incredible camp.
