HASS + 2021 – Progress Update 2

As the weeks pass by, the Year 10 HASS Exhibition night draws closer and closer. My group has been effective in the past weeks in completing the tasks required to keep ourselves up to date with the timeline we have previously created. When beginning to pull the whole project together and after taking in the feedback given, we have altered our project to suit the audience on the night. We have maintained the advantage of our previous idea to be interactive for the audience but an obstacle we faced was to be considerate of the length of our presentation and devising a plan that would allow time for the case to be presented, while also giving time in the end for the audience to partake.

Much of the work going into our revised plan stays the same as from the previous so here is the timeline that outlines our progress so far and the upcoming work:

Updated Timeline

A basic breakdown of the tasks completed (from after the last post):

  1. Begin creating evidence
This entailed us beginning to write some of the evidence that would go towards the final case presentation. Examples of this included writing the radio contest script and the police interview script.
  2. Begin extended script with narrative
The extended script with narrative was the compilation of the whole case and its runnings into one document so all was clear to all members while creating the case details documents and evidences. This also made us consider the plausibility of the case and ensure that all factors of the case aligned to fact and reason. Through this step, we noticed some discrepencies within our story and amended it accordingly.
  3. Put into effect feedback
The feeback we were given was to just consider how we would run our presentation on the night in a time-efficienct and engaging way. We have adapted it so we would include most of the case details and preliminary information in a video that we would show at the start of our presentation. This video would be around 5-8 minutes long and then we would present both the closing addresses. Following this, we would have the audience vote for a unanimous decision of the verdict to which we would close with whatever the decision was made.
  4. Continue script
We kept moving on with the numerous scripts that we need to create for the final product to come together.
  5. Continue evidence-making
This part of the evidence making relates to all the information and evidence we’ll need in suitable forms to insert into the video to be presented. This has resulted in things such as recording our radio contest script and filimg the police interview.

Although we have made substantial progress when considering our position relative to the last post, there are still many things to do before we can present, like the timeline states above.
A brief explanation of the tasks still to be completed:

  1. Continue witness statements
This regards the statements of the four witnesses that need to be written in order to be recorded and inserted into the final video. This work has been divided between the group members to ensure efficiency and so we all can keep up with the timeline.
  2. Finish making evidence
We need to finish the evidence that will end up in the video so we can have ample time to edit and review the video before night. We still need to record the scripts that being worked on right now so it is vital that the group stays up to date and on task during the last weeks leading up.
  3. Edit the police interview
This task has just been completed but still has to be reviwed by all group members before being set aside as fully compeleted.
  4. Begin parent’s video
The parent’s video refers to the final video we will present and so this task is to begin collating all the required pieces for it and to ensure the storyline of the video is cohesive and linear. This will include the recorded versions of the various scripts we will create as well as filler information between.
  5. Begin cross and re-examinations
This will be recorded or presented in a shortened form to be included within the video and presented on the night. These are critical parts of the script to be written due to their ability to identify and criticise the opposition’s case to reveal its’ weakness to the audience, who are not well-versed in the case.
  6. Getting props together and rehearsals
The props we need will either be presented in the video or on the night to the audience to add a little credibility to the case to engage them further. The rehearsals will include of the speaking parts of the night and of how the program will run to ensure the event occurs smoothly on the night.

The exhibition is to be held in less than 3 weeks and we have much to still do. But, so far, we are on the right track and I am confident our final product will be engaging and interesting.
