Exergaming with the Residents at RAAFA

All Saints’ is established closely to the Royal Australian Air Force Association (RAAFA) retirement village, and so it is convenient that one of the Colleges’ service activities that I participate in, is exergaming with the residents at RAAFA.

Exergaming is a form of fitness which combines exercise with video games. There a many different types of games such as bowling, balancing blocks, plug it (a game which requires you to cover the “leaks” in a tank), and even a roller coaster game which requires lots of concentration and quick reactions.

Every Tuesday afternoon, I walk a short distance with the other students that participate in this cocurricular activity, to the RAAFA retirement homes. The residents are always super welcoming with afternoon tea, and chairs set up for us as well. We spend roughly and hour exergaming and chatting with the residents. I love the cheerful atmosphere that the residents bring and every conversation I have with the residents are always interesting.

In my opinion this is one of the best co-curricular activities that All Saints’ offers because it is such a valuable experience to socialise with the residents at RAAFA who are incredibly kind and lovely to catch up with. I would love to continue participating in this activity during my time at All Saints’.
