2023 Term 1

Pasar Malam 2023

This year, the college had its first annual Pasar Malam since 2019! Due to the unfortunate Covid-19 Pandemic, this wonderful event was put on hold for 3 years. We were ever so excited to be able to hold one this year again.

The term, Pasar Malam is a direct translation from the Indonesian and Malay word literally meaning “night market”. A pasar malam is usually a street market in Southeast Asian countries such as Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. It consists of stalls selling hidden gems, artisan works, and many food stalls with so much scrumptious food to snack on while browsing.

The All Saints’ College Pasar Malam for 2023 started off with a bang with live music from the many various bands of the college including the rock and contemporary bands; and also the community choir! We had many artisan sellers within the market place selling a variety of goods including hair accessories, novelty cards, prints, keychains, and so much more. As well as a few stalls having small mini games to play.

The food array at the Pasar Malam this year was absolutely fantastic with Honey Crème and Boost as our beverages, and many various cuisines came to join us for the night. The food included massive slices of pizza, dumplings, butter chicken, noodles, barbecue, burgers, just to name a few. The food area was a massive hit amongst the whole community that turned up.

Of course, we can’t forget about the many fun games and activities that were available. There was the famous dunk tank where students got to see their favourite teacher being dunked into water. Then there was the rock climbing and obstacle course. Then there were a ton of inflatables everywhere including a bouncy castle and a surfing game.

The turn-up for the Pasar Malam this year was absolutely incredible because it was such a long-awaited event for students and is always something to look forward to at the beginning of each year. For those who came down Friday night, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed yourself. And for those who couldn’t make it, I hope to see you there next year!

2023 Term 2

Peer Tutoring

Peer Tutoring has been a well known co-curricular at the College since we could remember. It is a co-curricular which allows senior students to tutor junior students in the Senior School. The academic  captain of the college would send out a form at the start of the year that all students can fill out with their subject preferences that they would like to tutor or be tutored for. Once the forms have come in, tutors and tutees are paired up and they have their first meeting.

This tutoring program for tutees is good because it allows them to improve academically and also develop a close friendship with their tutors. It’s a great way for younger students to learn from older students who pass down their knowledge.

The program can benefit the tutors as well as it is a great thing to put on their resume or university/TAFE application. It can develop communication and social skills and it is an excellent way for the older students at the college to advise and teach younger students. They also may be able to learn from each other.

Overall, this is a great experience that I myself have gone through; both tutoring and being tutored. I can highly recommend this program to all students of all ages and abilities as you can personalize your own tutoring schedule to your liking and you can tutor or be tutored in all subjects.
