Debating

One of my many passions is debating. Ever since my sister started to compete in Inter school debating, I’ve always wanted to learn how to debate and compete in debates as well. When I came to All Saints’, I remember always checking to see if the Co-curricular link was up on Seqta yet. When the Inter School Debating team co-curricular (WADL) was up, I was eager to join. My very first debate was one to be remembered. Even though we didn’t win, we came up with some great points and worked as a team. I was first speaker because that’s what I always wanted to be. I thought that being first speaker wasn’t really my thing.
In my second debate, one person forgot to show up at the debate, so I had to stand in for him. I was just there for the parent meeting at school and I wasn’t even in my school uniform! I had to write down some points and rebuttals in 5 minutes with the help of Ms L. I was second speaker and I was really nervous because I didn’t exactly like to be second speaker. Sadly, we lost that debate too.
But the third debate, we won. My team won our first ever debate in Term 2. I had great team members (Jin and Ben) and we did really well. I can’t remember which school we were versing but we thanked them for bringing up a good debate. In the debate, I was third speaker and that role has been stuck with me until now. Even though we weren’t able to compete in AHISA this term. I’m still very delighted to be doing debating in class for health and Connected Learning.
