Online behaviors reflection

During Term 4, we have been looking at a lot of different online behaviors. We explored the 4 sections of the Yes Project. We worked through a booklet with the four different sections: empathy, critical thinking, respect and responsibility. Before I completed the online behaviors booklet, I used Whats app, You Tube, Google, Pinterest, Spotify and Outlook. I use these online platforms to research, or just simply for entertainment.

The key things that I learnt in this part of our Health curriculum is Critical thinking. You can just interpret an image in a wrong idea which is the total opposite to what the image actually shows. For example, there was an image that we had to analyse. Majority of the class said that it was a picture of bikers going somewhere to do no good. But in the end, we found out that the image was switched to grey scale which made them look like they were wearing leather jackets. In actual fact the picture was actually people on motorcycles and they were doing an annual teddy bear run to the hospital. This is really interesting because some things that are on some online platforms are not true and have been re-done.

I changed my online behavior from what I learnt by thinking from all different aspects when I see a picture on an online platform. When we saw a video about a boy looking at a video that shows a person jumping from a bridge and not getting hurt. The boy wanted to try it, but he thought critically if the video was actually true or not. So to test it, he threw a watermelon from a bridge and it smashed into bits. Therefore, critical thinking can stop you from getting hurt or badly injured.

I do plan to change my online behavior in the future because like critical thinking, I don’t want to injure myself for life just by trying to do something from a video I saw online. The other sections for the Yes Project also thought me to change my online behavior because with respect and empathy. You have to think if what you’re commenting is respectful or not and you have to put yourself in their shoes and imagine if you would want a comment like that on your post. This health curriculum taught me to be smart and also safe when going on a variety of online platforms
