Written Reflection About Project Utopia
During term 3 of year 7, My group did a project of redesigning the Fremantle port in a sustainable and liveable way. We worked on trying to turn the port into a sustainable and liveable society. In the entire experience of the project, I felt, learned, and thought a lot of different things. The experience was amazing, and I would love to do the project again. In the project, we showcased a lot of different capabilities. In this reflection, I will talk about the capabilities, organisation, communication, and collaboration.
In the project I showed my organisation skills on several occasions along the timeline of the project. I thought, felt, and learned a lot during these occasions. For example, I took notes and did research before the group got started so that we could have a clear understanding of the project and of what we wanted to make. I feel quite happy I managed to do good research, this has also made me feel that preparing thoroughly before I start anything is important, and that I can only succeed in whatever I’m doing if I understand what I am supposed to do. That was what I learned about organization throughout the project.

We also showcased our skills of collaboration with our group members. I never really thought that group work was very effective, as at the start we were not really on track, and we were not efficient. But as time went by, we started to get a lot more efficient, this made me think that when you are communicating, and collaborating nicely I can get a lot of work done. For example, I was designing an ocean pool and apartment. I was a bit stuck on the designing of the apartment until I collaborated with my group members and asked them for help. Then they gave me good feedback and I designed a great looking apartment. I now think that the idea of collaborating and helping each other is very important. Also, while designing and making the vision board, we were all working together and collaborating. This helped us finish the vision board very quickly and at a high standard. I feel happy that we were able to work together. Now I am going to try and work nicely in group work, this will make the group more efficient. That is how my group showcased their collaboration skills.

I feel that communication is a big part of group work, as work cannot be done without effective communication. In our group we were communicating in a nice, effective manner. For example- so that we could do the best public presentation as possible, we decided to organize a practice run through so that it is clear with what each presenter is saying, doing. This also helped us understand the flow of the presentation. I think that communicating effectively, not only makes your group work better, but it also helps you deliver quality work to the teachers, audience etc. This is what I thought and learned about communication over the course of the project.
