Mr Mark McGowan
Premier of WA
Parliament House WA
4 Harvest Terraces West Perth

Dear Honourable McGowan

I am writing this letter because I am concerned about how climate change is affecting people in Australia, and people worldwide. In no time, climate change will be affecting our food supply, water supply, water levels, temperatures, and air quality. We could be hit by severe heat strokes and droughts in which thousands of people could lose their lives or massive hurricanes that can destroy millions of homes.

However, after my research, I have seen the cause of fossil fuels on climate change. Greenhouse gases trap the sun’s heat and cause extreme temperature rises. 89% of all greenhouse gases are caused by the burning of fossil fuels, and 76% of electricity in Australia is made by burning fossil fuels. That is why I am asking that we increase the use of renewable energy as it has no harmful effects on the environment, and it will never run out. Renewable energy could be one of the only things we could do right now to stop climate change from hugely affecting humankind potentially. Your job as the premier is to take care of WA, this means you must step up for the people and decrease the number of fossil fuels used.

Fossil Fuels will put climate change into action, and in no time climate change will destroy planet earth. We need to start using more renewable and clean energy such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydro energy to save future generations. If we start using renewable energy, we could reduce the number of emissions being released into the air. This could potentially stop terrible disasters such as food shortages, water scarcities, enormous hurricanes, temperature rise, etc from happening. This means you could save thousands of innocent lives that could potentially be lost to climate change. The heatwaves caused by climate change are already affecting billions of people in India, and the floods in the eastern states are affecting thousands of East Australians. Climate change is destroying homes, flooding land, and taking people’s lives. Do you want to risk western Australian lives? Start using renewable energy, and decrease the emissions released in the air, it will save thousands of lives.

If you think Australia or WA is sustainable, then think again. Australia burns 129,642,679 Tons of coal a year which is 11% of the total world consumption! Australia needs to decrease the amount of coal burnt, and they need to increase the amount of renewable energy used. For Example, Dubai is taking advantage of its hot sunny days and is using solar energy to be as sustainable as possible. They are a good role model for us as they have similar climates to Australia. So, follow their footsteps and start using renewable energy.

Climate change will end the world if we don’t act now! Go green and save thousands of lives, it is on you to save western Australia. Please act now!

Yours sincerely,
Rohan Patel
